Zora Duntov and the Chevrolet skunkworks built 40 special 1959 Biscaynes, Police specials... Zora used his as the test mule

348/350 HP law-enforcement pursuit vehicles, featured in Motor Trend (Dec. 58) and Muscle Car Review (Feb 2008)

They were faster than that years best factory Ferrari according to Musclecar Review.. well, Zora's was the test mule and got the special treatment you'd expect the boss and leader of the Chevy racing program to get... it was capable of 135mph

the photos are from this auction listing, that states it's thought to be the last one left, and was originally delivered to the Oregon St Police http://mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=CA0810-96579

About 40% of all tickets written in San Diego are in just 4 locations, and 2 are basically College student areas

11% near SDSU at College Avenue between El Cajon Boulevard and Montezuma Road

5% in Pacific Beach, Garnet Avenue between Ingraham Street and Balboa Avenue

another of the top 5 most ticketed is also in Pacific Beach, coming down Mt Soledad rd to Balboa

So, are cops targetting young speeders? Seems like it. But keep in mind what I posted http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2008/01/speed-limit-enforcement.html about cops giving speeding tickets, they prefer to ticket in the 2nd or higher price bracket... not in the 5 to 15 mph over, but over 15 mph over the posted speed limit when fines really get expensive... because a million people driving the same way 5 miles over the limit as they do at the limit, versus a few people driving way over the limit who will get fined enormously for driving near or over the limit of their braking and avoidance ability is another way to see the issue, but keep reading to see that it really is all about the money.

So reading on the article, you find that the first one I wrote about, the 11% of all tickets in San Diego, the most of any place in San Diego, are at the bottom of the hills on either side of a speed limit drop zone of 600 feet (for nothing different in the road condition, no schools) because it's a senior citizen residential block where the speed drops from 35 to 25 (again... at the bottom of two hills when you've got gravity speeding you up), and to quote the reporter "Nearly all the tickets were issued in the senior zone when drivers exceeded 40 miles per hour, causing fines to increase by $125 or more."  confirming what I said about the 15 and over ticketing method causing fines to increase by $125 or more.
Using today’s fine amounts, the drivers ticketed on the College Avenue stretch during the year reviewed were fined more than $600,000. If all of the drivers paid those fines — and some do not — the city’s take would be more than $109,000 with the rest going to the county or the state.

Here is where you can see its all about the money... putting in a stop light will cost about a half million, writing tickets will earn about 20% more than that, about $600,000

More than that, the reporter, Matt Clark doesn't hold back.. I like that! He puts the matter in clear perspective when he points out
In the College Avenue zone (the one I've been talking about), 39 accidents occurred and cops handed out 1,678 tickets between July 2005 and June 2010,

Other areas of the city had more accidents — and fewer speeding tickets.

Three people died in 104 accidents on University Avenue between Park Boulevard and Utah Street in North Park. Officers issued five speeding tickets.

All fired up? Or would you like to read a really good rant about speed traps and how people got fed up and fought back? http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2011/01/here-comes-rant-moneymaking-speedtraps.html

be careful in Poway (just off the 15 north from San Diego) the cops are hanging around everywhere catching speeders, here at the intersection of Poway and Silver Lake roads

Just across the street from KFC where I was getting lunch,
they were running radar on Community south of Poway Rd as well, but I didn't have time to take pictures and it isn't necessary to illustrate my point. Here is last months Poway speed trap: http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2011/10/for-all-you-do-this-guy-is-ready-to.html

For all you do, this guy is ready to give you a speeding ticket while he parks at a stop sign... which is no better or more lawful than your speeding over 35 mph

Thanks for keeping the peace, keeping civilization in check, and reinforcing public conciousness that cops are always wasting time giving speeding tickets to drivers instead of stopping heinous crimes and criminals. Why is it blue collar types are policed, white collar types aren't? By this I mean that Del Mar, LaJolla, Beverly Hills, etc etc filthy rich neighborhoods are not the locations that cops run radar in 35 mph zones. Corporations that bleed the country aren't monitored, tax cheats aren't tracked down, and hackers aren't kept from laying viruses throughout the internet.
But we get radar traps. Oh yeah, speeding tickets, meant to keep lazy law enforcement occupied bringing in revenue for cities, counties, and states... So why aren't they standing by at busy intersections catching red light runners? If stop light cameras are politicians answer to stopping red light runners, they must have had some good logical reasons that interesections are ripe for monitoring... and yet you'll never see a cop hanging out at a busy intersection doing that duty that the cameras were demanded for

"Not in the Bike Lane" another Public Service announcement from Casey

In a nutshell, Casey was ticketed by NYPD for not riding in the bike lane, and he made this video to prove that the bake lane isn't safe, because NYPD doesn't enforce the laws that are in place to keep the bike lane free of obstructions, constructions, cop cars, trash cans, etc etc. Bravo Casey!

Gamma towing in San Diego prosecuted successfully for illegal towing, illegal impounds, and failing to release to lawful owner (and more)

But the quick summary is that the owner plead GUILTY to 52 counts. I don't like tow truck companies, or cops. Gee, imagine that I'm not fond of people that just make your car go away.

The City Attorney was making hay out of this of course, but when does a city attorney ever get good press anyway?

ever forget something? On your car? It's bad, but when a cop puts a semiauto ar15 on the trunk, and another doesn't bother with the required vehicle inspection, and drives out into public... it's worse

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2015452756_coprifle29m.html has the full story, here is the essential info

According to two sources with knowledge of the incident, it began when one officer was inside the secure parking garage at the West Precinct and unloaded his equipment from a police cruiser. The officer placed the rifle on the trunk of a nearby patrol car, forgot about the rifle and walked off.

Another officer then went into the garage and drove away in the patrol vehicle without realizing the rifle was on the trunk lid, the sources said. (it's procedural requirement to do a walk around pre operation, make sure the lights and siren work)

The patrol car was parked a few blocks away from the West Precinct in front of the Roosevelt Hotel on Seventh Avenue around 9 p.m. Monday when at least two people spotted the rifle on the unattended vehicle.

A man who identified himself as Nick Gonzales confirmed he snapped a photo (this photo above) of the unsecured weapon.
Police said he then flagged down a couple of nearby bicycle officers.

11-99 is a code that means send all the cops that are vertical, I'm about to die without an army showing up RIGHT NOW to help

It's a guess that mot many cops live through those situations. This guy did.

The ones that don't make it are honored by the 11-99 Foundation to help their surviving family http://www.chp11-99.org/

If you want to dig a little deeper http://officerinvolvedshootings.blogspot.com/?zx=aede1ce78263df74 is written by a cop in training. From his persective it comes across a lot different than you get from television or movies

motorcycle license test (M1) ... why not take that test on a Can -Am 3 wheeler?

it is technically a motorcycle, and not registered or taxed as a car, so... instead of stuggling through a motorcycle test if you've never ridden a motorbike before, sit in comfort, breeze through the test, and go home without dumping a nice bike and having to fix a fairing.

Yes, this sort of cheating at test has gotten me to where I am today... thinking outside that proverbial box
